Manager Martin Allen would love to bring his son to Barnet – but admits there is no way he can afford him.

Midfielder Charlie Allen has played under his dad at Brentford, Notts County and Gillingham before signing for Margate in March, where the 22 year old has scored five goals in 11 games.

Despite the fact that moneybags Margate ply their trade two levels below Barnet in the Ryman Premier, Allen senior concedes he cannot compete with their level of spending.

He said: “It was definitely an option to bring Charlie to Barnet, but we couldn't afford him now. He's been scoring a lot of goals for Margate, and I am over the moon for him, but we couldn't match what they are offering him.”
