Mauro Vilhete says Barnet have not given up hope of clinching a Conference Premier play-off spot.

The Bees are five points adrift of the top five and have played more games than most of the teams around them.

Grimsby, Salisbury and Kidderminster, all just underneath the cut-off point, have games in hand on Barnet as do Macclesfield, Wrexham and Forest Green, who are below 10th-placed Bees in the table.

But Vilhete, who scored his second Barnet goal in consecutive games by heading home a last-minute winner against Southport last time out, still believes his team can go up.

“I don’t think anyone doubts that we can get the play-offs,” said the enthusiastic winger.

“We know we are a strong team and we know that when we play, like the way we played [against Southport]. There is pretty much no one in the league who can match us. We have just got to carry on with the same performances and get the results we want.”

Vilhete has become an integral part of the Barnet squad, having filled in in a number of positions, including left back against the Sandgrounders.

Barnet’s trip to Macclesfield was postponed on Saturday because of a waterlogged pitch at Moss Rose and has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 18, kick-off at 7.45pm.

A trip to Forest Green Rovers awaits for the Bees this weekend.
