Akos Buzsaky's season appears to be over after a scan revealed the extent of a knee injury the midfielder picked up at Manchester United on Tuesday night.
The Hungarian, who was just coming back to form and fitness after being sidelined in the summer with an ankle injury, limped off after 33 minutes of the Carling Cup tie.
His studs got caught in the turf and his right knee twisted. The scan showed he has anterior cruciate ligament damage and will be out for six to nine months following surgery in the next few days.
"It's a massive blow for us," said caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth. "Akos is a unique talent and he was just starting to hit peak form again following a spell on the sidelines.
"I'm devastated we've lost him, but all we can do is offer him our support and wish him all the best with his recovery."
