Fulham’s chase for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk appears to be over after the centre-back signed a contract extension with his club.

The 23-year-old was heavily mooted with a £5million move to the Cottagers , who are looking to shore up their frail back line.

But Brighton have since tied down the defender on a five year deal.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Brighton & Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk has committed his long-term future to the club, by signing a new five-year contract that will run until June 2020.

“Dunk, who graduated through the club's youth and under-21 teams, agreed the new extended terms earlier today.”

The imposing centre-back has made 108 appearances for the Seagulls who are currently flying top of the Championship table.

Meanwhile, the Cottagers have completed the signing of Joe Lewis on a season-long loan from Cardiff after the long-term injury suffered by Marcus Bettinelli.
