Rico Henry is a young player who is only just showing Brentford fans what he can do, but his career could have panned out differently.

If Tim Sherwood had had his way when he was Aston Villa manager, Henry would be plying his trade at Villa Park, not Griffin Park.

The 19-year-old was made aware of this but vowed just to keep his head down and focus on his work, which he has continued at Griffin Park.

“It's good to get noticed but you just have to play football and keep your head on the game and not let it distract you,” Henry said.

“I've settled down (in London) really well. Brentford have helped me a lot. Because of that, I can concentrate on training and matches.”

Henry cites Real Madrid, Barcelona and Tottenham players as the ones he looks up to, especially as they all share similar characteristics.

He revealed: “I look up to Jordi Alba, Marcelo and Danny Rose. I sit back and enjoy it but I do watch Jordi Alba a lot when he's attacking and defending. Danny Rose is an athlete. I think I need to improve physically.”

Henry has also represented England U21s and, being the confident player he is, it wasn't a surprise.

He explained: “I was expecting it as I was doing well last season. I got the call up and I hope I can keep playing with them.

“There are a few there. There was Axel Tuanzebe and Izzy Brown. I hope I can play with them in the future.”
