Brentford midfielder Theo Archibald has made a public apology over the Snapchat messages he sent to his then girlfriend Jennifer Lewis

She posted screenshots of messages on her Twitter page with the caption: “Found out my boyfriend of 2 and a half years has been cheating on me for 8 months footballers eh”

The tweet has been retweeted over 4,000 times and the Snapchat messages apparently show the Scotland U19 international poking fun at autism and boasting about his affairs.

And in a statement an embarrassed and contrite Archibald released to GetWestLondon, he offered a full and frank apology for his actions.

It read: "I am extremely disappointed in my actions and the comments I have made. It was a huge error of judgement on my part to speak like that. Nobody deserves to be treated in that way so I apologise unreservedly to everyone I have caused offence to.

"I am embarrassed by what I’ve done and, so in an attempt to prove my worth to everybody inside and outside football, I will be undertaking a programme of community work. In doing so I hope that I can prove to everybody that I am not the person they have seen recently and I will never again act in that way.

"I sincerely apologise again for the offence I have caused."

Archibald, 19, has featured for Brentford on three occasions this season, making his first start in the Carabao Cup loss to Norwich.
