Brentford will meet Millwall in the league for the first time in three seasons after the Lions' two year Championship exile ended with glory at Wembley.

The last four seasons the two clubs have been in the same league has either resulted in one side being promoted or relegated.

The last time the two teams met in a competitive fixture was in March 2015 where the Bees staged a late fightback from two goals down to rescue a point against a Lions side heading towards the drop thanks to strikes from Alex Pritchard and Moses Odubajo.

The west Londoners triumphed at The Den earlier that season in another dramatic game with five goals coming in the space of 22 minutes.

Alex Pritchard

Andre Gray had given the Bees a 42 minute lead which was doubled 11 minutes after the interval.

Millwall, though, were back on level terms by the hour mark thanks to Lee Gregory and Alan Dunne.

However, Brentford grabbed the winner five minutes later after a Danny Shittu own goal to continue their fine November form.

The previous season where the two sides met was in 2009/10 with Millwall going on to win at Wembley.

John Bostock scored direct from a corner and had an impressive debut after joining on loan from Tottenham, bagging a brace, but goals from Paul Robinson and James Henry's 89 minute equaliser rescued a point for the Lions.

Carl Cort

In the return fixture at The Den, Brentford took the lead through Carl Cort, although replays showed it was offside, before Robinson equalised late in the second half.

The most memorable moment came on November 6 1965 at Griffin Park in the old third division where a hand grenade was thrown from the away end towards Brentford goalkeeper Chic Brodie's goal.

The Bees stopper was reportedly targeted because he delighted in winding up Lions fans an had become known as a 'fancy Dan goalkeeper'.

The police came and put the device into a sand bucket and the Lions went on to win by two goals to one.

The first meeting came at Griffin Park in August 1920 with the Bees going on to win by a goal to nil.

In their entire history the Bees have won 22 meetings between the two, Millwall have won 20 and there have been 21 draws.
