Charlie Austin looks set to be on the bench to face Brentford tomorrow.

QPR head coach Chris Ramsey will run the rule over his star hitman in training today, and although Austin wants to play, Ramsey wants to protect the player from himself.

He said: “We’ll check on Charlie today; he’s raring to go,

“But it depends on how much gas he has in the tank as to whether he starts.

“Charlie voiced his opinion about getting in the team, but sometimes you have to protect them from themselves.”

Battle: Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (L) will come up against Brentford's Harlee Dean

The Rs coach is relishing the thought of teaming both Austin and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in the same Hoops line-up as a two-pronged spearhead.

The former Bristol City forward has been a revelation after hitting five in eight, including a key first goal in the 3-0 win over MK Dons on Saturday.

“I think we can accommodate both,” Ramsey added.

“Jay will play at Brentford, it’s now for him to lose his place. He’s worked very hard.”

Rangers have Jamie Mackie and Armand Traore sidelined – but everybody else is available for the first Griffin Park derby since 2004.
