Jordan Rhodes will be back on familiar turf when Blackburn Rovers visit Griffin Park this weekend.

The 24-year-old had a loan spell at Brentford from Ipswich back in 2009, which was cut short due to a broken toe.

In 14 games for the Bees, Rhodes banged in seven goals and even managed to score a hat-trick in 29 minutes against Shrewsbury.

The Lancashire Telegraph’s Rovers reporter, Paul Wheelock, reckons the striker still has the golden touch and will be one to watch on Saturday.

Main man: Jordan Rhodes

He explained: “Jordan Rhodes is one of the big-name players and Brentford fans will obviously know him from his loan spell there earlier in his career.

“He’s been amazing since he signed for the club in 2012 but this season has probably been his worst in front of goal.

“Jordan has scored seven so far, which is no bad return, but by his high standards is below par I’d say.

“His lack of goals is more to do with Rudy Gestede playing up front as well now, he’s got 11, so the goalscoring burden has been taken off him.

Wing wizard: Ben Marshall

“By no means is he playing second fiddle but he’s not the only man up there any more. He got a couple against Leeds a couple of weeks ago and played well last time out.”

Wheelock also says Blackburn pose a threat on the flanks and reckons they have a rising star between the sticks who will have a point to prove to his manager against Brentford.

He added: “Winger Ben Marshall is in good form. He wasn’t really in the team at the start of the season because Tom Cairney and Craig Conway were regulars on the win.

“Ben has really kicked on though, he’s got six goals himself, and he’s one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment.

Safe hands: Jason Steele

Jason Steele (see him in action in the gallery below) has come in on loan on deadline day from Middlesbrough and has become the number one goalkeeper over Paul Robinson.

“He gave away one of the goals in the 2-1 defeat Sheffield Wednesday so he’s under a bit of pressure for Saturday and he probably knows it.

“He can’t afford too many mistakes given the way his deputy performed in the previous game with Middlesbrough when Jason was ineligible.”
