Brentford have triggered the one-year extension on Jota's contract, keeping him at the club until 2018.

The Spaniard has caught the eye of several Championship and Premier League sides, including Swansea and Burnley.

The Bees always had a one-year option on the wing wizard's deal and the club announced via Snapchat that the extension had been activated. The fact that the club have yet to agree a longer term deal has been met with concern by some fans.

Jota spent the first half of the season on loan at Eibar, where he had been since January 2016 but he was recalled by Brentford on December 31.

He made his second debut for the club against Eastleigh in the FA Cup and has, since, gone on to score 12 goals and set up another five.

The 25-year-old was unable to end the season on a high as he and Brentford were beaten 3-1 by Blackburn Rovers at Griffin Park on the final day of the campaign.

The Bees finished the season in 10th place but confidence in the camp is high that the west Londoners can achieve big things next season.
