Dean Smith has hinted that Brentford will trigger the extension clause on Florian Jozefzoon's contract at Griffin Park.

The Dutchman signed a six-month deal with the Bees in January with a club option for the 2017 season.

Jozefzoon has been a regular in the squad and has featured in most games, either coming on for Sergi Canos or being replaced by the Spaniard, and he completed his first 90 minutes at Barnsley on Monday.

Smith revealed that he has held talks with co-directors of football Rasmus Ankersen and Phil Giles about the Dutchman and suggested that he would like Jozefzoon to remain at Griffin Park next season.

He said: “We have discussions all the time. He's not had the starts he would have wanted such has been the form of Jota and Sergi.

“He managed to get a start and scored his first goal. We've been pleased with him so far. He's mixed in with the lads really well as well.”
