Brentford have been struck a double transfer blow - with Sergi Canos looking poised to join Championship rivals Bristol City, and a John Egan's transfer looking like it will have to settled by a tribunal.

Canos, who had a brilliant loan spell with the Bees last season, never looked like being a plausible target for a permanent move once Liverpool slapped a £4million price tag on him earlier this summer, but seeing him turn out against Dean Smith's men next season will still be a hard one for Bees fans to swallow.

Liverpool look willing to accept £2.5million for Canos from Bristol City, who managed to being the asking price down by way of a hefty sell-on fee and buy-back clause. The Spaniard scored seven goals in 38 games for Brentford last season, including spectacular strikes at Reading and Huddersfield .

Meanwhile, a battle of wills has emerged over centre-back Egan, whose arrival from Gillingham the club are expected to announce later this week.

Although the 24 year old is out of contract at the end of this month, Egan's age means Gillingham are entitled to compensation, and the Gills are reportedly looking to get more money out of Brentford than has been offered.

If no agreement is reached, the fee for a player Brentford also made a move for back in the January transfer window will be decided by a tribunal.
