Philipp Hofmann has been backed to shine at Brentford by team-mate Toumani Diagouraga.

The German under-21 international is currently the Bees' main striker after the departure of Andre Gray to Burnley with Lasse Vibe likely to be deployed in the advanced midfield three.

Hofmann bagged his first goal for the club against Bristol City two weeks ago and it will be hoped it is the first of many for the club.

And Diagouraga believes that, in time, the striker will become a key player for the club.

He said: “I think he played well in the first two games and his his first goal at Bristol City. He can bring others into play and hold the ball up.

“He's a very good player. He's a German under-21 international so I'm sure he'll do well for the team.”

Head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen has been pleased with Hofmann's adjustment to the English game and insisted he is more than a battering ram.

The Dutchman explained: “He's strong. He sometimes looks for the ball too much. I think he's adjusted very quickly.

“He's got good touches, especially on his left. He can be a playmaker too. I think he can do both.”
