Tommy Smith admitted there was disappointment all round at not beating Millwall on Saturday – but warned there will be more strange results to come as the season reaches its business end.

Having seen their team pull off a stunning comeback win at Blackburn four days before, Brentford fans would have been forgiven for thinking a home game against the struggling Lions was a banker.

But the Bees had to battle back late on to claim a point through an Alex Pritchard penalty and a last-gasp Moses Odubajo equaliser after finding themselves two goals down.

He said: “Millwall can probably count themselves a bit unlucky really, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. You’ve got to make sure you fight right to the death.

"Fortunately the penalty gave us a bit of a lift, and from then on I thought we might go and get the equaliser. We needed a bit of a spark today, and that gave it to us.

“Going into the game we would have liked to have won it, but come the end of the season it might well be very good point. It’s coming to that point in the season now where there’s going to be some strange results.

"There’s no easy games. Whether you’re playing teams fighting for their lives down at the bottom or you’re pushing for promotion, there’s very little between them.

“It will be interesting for us because we're still a bit of a dark horse, and if we hadn't got the draw today people would be saying that's it for us. But we're not looking over our shoulders, we'll keep working and banging on the door.

“Credit to Millwall, they scored a couple of good goals. On our behalf, that’s probably where we’ve got improve. If things aren’t going well for us we need to keep it tight and keep a clean sheet, and that’s probably something we can improve on.”
