Philipp Hofmann sees the new season as the chance to make a fresh start at Brentford after an injury hit first campaign at Griffin Park.

The German U21 international was limited to 21 Championship appearances, with 16 of those coming off the bench, last season but did score four goals in that time.

A series of injuries was the cause for lengthy absences and Bees fans did not see the best of the 23-year-old last term.

But now he feels it is a chance to start afresh after working hard during pre-season training.

“I think it's a fresh start. It was a good game against Kaiserslautern and I was happy to see my old team-mates,” Hofmann said.

“Pre-season has been going very well. It's good to be fit and it's very good to train the whole of pre-season without injuries.

“I have to train hard every day and be without injuries. I had two injuries last season and I've been training every day and it's been good for me.

“I hope Brentford see the real Philipp Hofmann this season. I feel very good and I'm looking forward to the first game.”

With Lasse Vibe going off to the Olympics it presents a chance for Hofmann to stake his claim for a place in the starting line-up and, while the German is happy for his Danish team-mate, he can't help but see it as an opportunity for himself.

He added: “It's a chance for me. I'm happy for Lasse but it's a good opportunity for me to play and help the team.”
