Goal machine: Ollie Watkins

Although he insists he has set himself no targets for the season, Ollie Watkins is determined to beat his best tally of 16 for Exeter City.

The Brentford striker, who reached that amount for the Grecians last season, already has seven goals for the Bees, despite his penalty miss on Saturday.

This from a player not only getting used to life at a new club, but also to an unfamiliar role, on the left side of a three-pronged attack.

“I've not really set any targets as I didn't want to put any extra pressure on myself, but I'd like to try to go one better than last year or equal it,” he said.

“I scored 16 last year, and that is my best season so far. I know I need to keep doing it on a consistent basis, but I don't put too much pressure on myself, just take it as it comes.

“I played more as a number 10 for Exeter but got moved all over really. This is the first time I've played as a front man on the left and I'm enjoying it.

“It doesn't make too much of a difference when you have good players around you like I do here, and I'm happy to play anywhere, as long as I'm playing.”

Alongside his thrilling runs and finishing ability, one of the features of Watkins' play is his brute strength, and the difficulty defenders have in trying, and failing, to muscle him off the ball.

“Using my strength is something I've learnt to add to my game,” he added. “I'll keep using my body because I feel like that's one of my strengths, but at first I didn't know how to use it. I'm trying to improve day by day and keep adding things to my game.”
