Marco Djuricin will be working on his fitness in order to help score the goals to lift Brentford out of danger.

The Austrian has scored twice for the Bees so far, including on his debut against Leeds, since joining on loan from Red Bull Salzburg at the end of the transfer window.

But he knows he must up his game, including his fitness, and adapt to the English leagues as Brentford look to escape being sucked into a relegation battle.

He said: “I scored in my first game and I was very happy. I must score more goals and the team must play better.

“I've gone four or five weeks without a game then we're playing five in two weeks. I'll be working on my fitness and improve.”

Brentford have been long-term admirers of Djuricin and tried to sign him in January but failed to do so, which was one of the reasons for the breakdown in relationship between Matthew Benham and then manager Mark Warburton.

But the striker is making the most of a second chance to come to the Griffin Park club and is settling in in west London.

He added: “I had an offer from Brentford but went to Red Bull Salzburg. Now I have a second chance to come to Brentford and I'm very happy to be here.

“I'm very happy here. London is a big city. I was in Berlin for four years but London is bigger. I've got my apartment and I'll try and see the city.”

Djuricin's goal against Preston was voted as the club's goal of the month and he endeared himself to Brentford fans by running into the crowd to celebrate.

He explained: “It was a very good (feeling). I got a yellow card (for going into the crowd) but I don't know why.”
