Brentford will stay on the road between their 3-1 defeat to Newcastle and Tuesday night's game at Derby.

The Bees stayed in the north east on Saturday night before travelling to the Midlands on Sunday in order to prepare for the contest with the Rams.

And head coach Dean Smith believes negating the travelling time should stand the squad in good stead with further challenges ahead.

He said: “We feel it's the right thing to do as there'd be too much travelling. I don't think it's ever ideal to take the players away from their families as it's important they have that family life they're comfortable with.

“The fact it's off the back of the international break where they have had a few days off I felt it was the right thing to do.

“We've got a few things planned while we're away and that'll include watching Liverpool v Manchester United on Monday evening.”
