Brentford midfielder Jota has taken the next step in his recovery from injury after playing a part, and scoring, in the Bees' behind closed doors friendly with Tottenham this afternoon.

The Spaniard has been out of action since the opening day of the season with an ankle injury which required surgery; inflicted by former team-mate Jonathan Douglas.

Jota became a fans' favourite at Griffin Park after scoring a last minute winner against west London rivals Fulham in November 2014.

Last season, he made 42 Championship appearances, scoring 11 goals in the process as Brentford finished in fifth place in the second tier before losing in the play-offs to Middlesbrough.

Jota is unlikely to be risked against Bolton next Monday as he builds up match fitness but could return to the squad at the start of December.

Brentford beat a Spurs side 4-1 with Sergi Canos bagging a brace, following his first senior goal against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and Philipp Hofmann, who scored the winner at the weekend, also finding the net.
