Jake Bidwell is not ruling out Brentford making a late surge for automatic promotion as the Championship season reaches an exciting climax.
With five games remaining, the Bees are a point outside the play-offs and six adrift of automatic promotion but Bidwell is not ruling out a late surge to secure a second successive promotion and a spot in next season's Premier League.
While, most of the top teams still have to face each other, Brentford's biggest test, on paper, is a trip to Derby on Saturday before facing sides in the lower part of the table.
Bidwell said: “I don't think automatic promotion is out of the question. Teams are dropping points.
“The pressure is on now. We've got to get as many points from these five games but hopefully it'll have landed in the top two but top six minimum.
“I think if someone offered you this situation with five games left you'd have taken it. We've got five left and lets see where that takes us.”
Bidwell is relishing the prospect of facing the likes of Darren Bent, Chris Martin and co at the iPro Stadium.
He said: “They're all massive. We've got five games to do something special and get the club into the Premier League.
“Derby being around us gives it an edge and it is on Sky. We've got to win our last five games.
“You want to play against the highest players possible and challenge yourself against the best players.
“You're striving to get into the Premier League so you've got to take on that challenge and enjoy it.”
