Brentford players' player of the season Ryan Woods has 'found another level' this season according to Dean Smith.

The midfielder missed just four league games over the course of the campaign and has often been cited by opponents as the Bees' best player.

And the head coach believes that Woods has been getting better and better as he takes on board what he's being asked to do.

Smith said: “He's found another level. He played out of position last year, on the right of a midfield four.

“He's sometimes played as one of the two further forward and since Josh McEachran got injured he's played a lot deeper.

“He gets better and better. He takes on board things. I felt, earlier in the season, he was making too many silly tackles and got suspended quite early.

“He's taken it on board and become a disciplined player.”

Woods failed to find the net for the Bees this season but the Brentford head coach is not, necessarily, looking to see goals added to his game.

He added: “That (goals) would depend on the position he plays. As a holding midfielder, we don't expect him to get too many. The goals he scores tend to be 30-yarders like Reading and MK Dons.”
