Ryan Woods has insisted the Brentford squad are fully behind head coach Dean Smith, despite the Bees losing 10 of the 13 games they have played this year.

Woods was part of the side who were heavily beaten 3-0 by west London rivals QPR last weekend; a result that has piled the pressure from the supporters onto Smith.

However, the Brentford midfielder insisted the squad are fully behind the head coach and doing everything they can to turn their form around.

He said: “The players are fully behind Dean. It’s really hard to take but we’re all working hard on and off the pitch to put things right. We’re hoping it’s going to go for us soon.”

Brentford are only seven points clear of the relegation zone and captain Jake Bidwell warned last week that the club were getting sucked into a relegation battle.

The Bees face Blackburn, who are level on points but have a vastly superior goal difference, on Saturday and Woods knows the club face a must-win game.

He added: “We’ve just got to make sure we get points on the board and take us away from looking over our shoulders at the relegation places.

“We’re in that situation. We’ve got to make sure we put it right and that’s got to start against Blackburn.”

Brentford have conceded sloppy goals in recent weeks, while they have also struggled to find the net.

Last striker to score: Philipp Hofmann

Of the recognised strikers, only Philipp Hofmann has found the net in 2016 with Lasse Vibe and Marco Djuricin both struggling for form.

Smith elected to start without a striker at QPR on Saturday but this was unable to turn the tide as the Bees struggled to create chances.

Woods explained: “I don’t think we’re making teams work hard enough for their goals. When you’re in a bad run of form, things go against you.

“It’s up to us to change it around. We’ve got to look at scoring goals as well. We’ve not created clear cut chances either. We’re doing a lot of things in training – we need to take it into games now.”

An international break follows the Blackburn game and Woods will be a relieved man to go into it with a victory that would allow Brentford to regroup before the run-in.

He said: “I think the break will be good for us to regroup and look at things after a break that we need. First things first, it’s a very important game on Saturday.”
