Alan McCormack heaped praise on young Brentford full back Josh Clarke after the 21-year-old acquitted himself well against Cardiff.

The youngster, who has come through the ranks at Griffin Park, came in under Marinus Dijkhuizen before Lee Carsley sent him out on loan.

In recent games, Dean Smith has included him on the bench before handing him a start against Cardiff.

And Clarke rewarded him by producing an excellent display as he kept the play-off outsiders at bay.

McCormack said: “He had a blinding game and he's been excellent all year. From the very first day, he's knuckled down and has got a lot of respect from every player.

“He trains one of the hardest every day. He doesn't complain or moan – he just gets on with it. He gets tackled hard and he still gets on with it then.

“When you see a young lad like that you want him to do well. He's come in against a good side and did very well and was one of the best players on the pitch tonight.”

McCormack also praised Scott Hogan after the striker continued his fine form with two goals against the Bluebirds, following up his last minute equaliser against Bristol City.

He added: “We're seeing his potential now he's getting fitter and sharper. He gets in behind and can come in to feet. He's big and powerful but, most importantly, he knows where the goal is.”
