Lasse Vibe is delighted with how he has stepped up to replace Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan but is not going to sit on his laurels.

The Dane is just one goal behind Hogan's efforts for Brentford this season, despite not playing in his preferred position until January.

And Vibe has been pleased with his displays but wants to keep going until the season's end.

He said: “After Scotty left, there were some shoes to fill and I've been happy to do that but it's not over yet.

“We've got a few games left and we want to finish strongly and not just done well. We want to go all the way in.”

Lasse Vibe

Vibe's displays have been received well by Brentford fans and there are many who believe the Dane is a better all round player than the departing Hogan.

The striker replied: “It's always nice to have people say nice things about you. Scott did really well and deserved his move. He scored good goals and many goals.

“I've been happy to take the chance. I was not in my strongest position in the first half when I was playing in behind him as a 10. I'm happy to play in the right position.”

Birmingham City v Brentford. Tomasz Kuszczak saves Scott Hogan's penalty.

Vibe's influence was less against Cardiff but he still put a shift in trying to open up the organised Bluebirds' defence.

He explained: “I don't think it was a game where I had to compete with big and strong guys. I tried to find some space.

“They go man for man and they did that when we played them on Boxing Day. They went five at the back and they matched us up on Saturday.

“They matched us up and tracked us everywhere. It gives you the possibility to open up space and that's what I was trying to do, probably more others to run into than myself.”
