Dan Bentley is eyeing further improvement despite the Brentford goalkeeper enjoying a bright start at Griffin Park.

The former Southend goalkeeper has been the hero for the Bees in some of their early season games and has won praise from predecessor Richard Lee.

However, he is not going to rest on his laurels and is looking to improve further as a player.

Bentley explained: “I'm a huge perfectionist and, although I don't think it's obtainable, I'm a realist at the same time.

“This is a new division to me and I feel like I've taken to the division well. It's a good test for me.

“It's a test I feel I'm relishing so to continue forward and plying my trade the way I have been and the way I have been learning and keep developing in the way I think I will.

“I believe there's plenty to come. Goalkeepers mature with age anyway so I believe the better I will become and that goes along with hard work, which is a guaranteed given with me.”

Bentley was also full of praise for the back four that consists of Maxime Colin, Harlee Dean, John Egan and Andreas Bjelland.

He added: “We've certainly carved out some relationships which, before the start of the season, people would have questioned myself and John coming up from a lower level.

“The fact we've all got to get to know each other and our strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes and the fact we have a great understanding of each others' games and have such a good relationship in a short space of time is a testament to the team spirit of the group.

“It's shown on the pitch with players putting their bodies on the line. We have a natural understanding as a unit, which is great but it can only get better and take us forward.”
