Andre Gray believes Brentford have struggled more at Griffin Park recently because of the smaller pitch in relationship to their Championship rivals and believes the extra space on the road is a reason for their good form.

The Bees have tasted victory against Brighton, Norwich and Leeds on the road this year, but have only won once at home in 2015, beating Rotherham, but have fallen to defeats against Brighton in the FA Cup, Middlesbrough and Watford last night.

Gray said: “I think away games help us as the pitches are bigger. We try and get between the defence and midfield. Away from home there's more space and at home it's a tight pitch.

“The difference at home is we've got the crowd behind us. We always dominate games here. We're confident away from home as much as we are at home.”

Gray had appeared frustrated at Norwich and Leeds as he was not converting his chances but returned to form with a brilliant strike against Watford, although an Odion Ighalo brace gave the Hornets the victory .

He added: “It's always good to get on the scoresheet but if we haven't got the three points then I'm not happy.

“I think I've been getting good chances and feel as if I've been doing everything right, just not putting the ball into the net.

“There's a lot more to my game than scoring goals now and I'm adapting to that and I think I'm setting up goals as much as I'm scoring them. Someone told me to score 10 goals in the season and I've got 12 now.”

The Bees went into last night's game with Watford under a cloud amid rumours suggesting Mark Warburton and Frank McParland would leave the club .

Backing the boss: Brentford players show their appreciation for Mark Warburton.

Gray and his team-mates ran to the manager after scoring as a show of solidarity towards the beleagured boss and the striker joined team-mates in giving the manager his backing.

He said: “It's just a case of sticking together. The gaffer has given that to the team and we showed how much he meaned to us with the celebration and the fans did by singing his name.

“He's a big part of what we're doing and we wouldn't be where we are without him. The players were telling me to go over to him and I always planned to do that. Everyone in the changing room wants him to stay.

The manager been fair with everybody. Even the boys who haven't been involved have been positive about it. We've not gone on runs of losing and drawing. Everyone in the club is behind the gaffer.

“He's got massive belief in me and knows what I'm capable of and I'm grateful for that.”
