Dean Smith believes that Harlee Dean will be an even better player for Brentford next season after being crowned supporters' player of the year.

The centre back was virtually an ever present for the Bees, only missing one game when he was available for selection.

The Bees named the defender as their captain this season and many believe that that decision helped raise Dean's game to a new level.

In previous seasons, the centre back has been a solid defender but he has become much better driving forward and, with a year's experience behind him, can only return a better player.

Smith said: “There's more to come from Harlee. He's learning all the time about becoming a leader.

“We made him captain and he's taken it on board. There are still things he can improve on. One of the things he wanted to improve on was his goal tally. He's got more than he did last season.

“He'll get better as long as he takes the advice on board, which he has been doing.”

Dean will have to wait until the second game of next season to have a chance of featuring after his red card against Blackburn on the final day of this campaign.
