Brentford midfielder Alan Judge has come off his crutches as he steps up his recovery from a horrific double leg break.

The Irishman suffered the injury after a horror challenge from Ipswich midfielder Luke Hyam in April.

The 27-year-old, who was named as the Bees' player of the season by both his team-mates and supporters, was in with a chance to go to Euro 2016 with Ireland but the injury ended his dreams.

But Judge has made a big step in his recovery after shedding his crutches and can now walk unaided.

Judge still has a long way to go until he can return to action and Brentford are not putting a timescale on when he will make a return.

The midfielder insisted last month that he has no hard feelings towards Hyam after his challenge.

"I had my eyes set on the ball and I can see Luke coming in and he has put in a tackle," he said.

"He has definitely not gone out to break my leg and I don't want him to get any abuse.

"These things can happen in football. Football can give you everything then take everything away."
