Harlee Dean felt Brentford lacked quality in the final third in their 1-0 defeat at Rotherham United.

The Bees had 67 per cent possession, 11 corners to six and 18 shots to six but, in the stat that really matters, failed to score while the Millers did.

And the skipper admitted that the final ball and shot was what was lacking from Brentford on Saturday as, if they had, they would have recorded a comfortable win.

He said: “I've not got a clue how we came away without any points. I don't think we had enough quality in the final third.

“The final delivery wasn't good enough. We had a lot of the ball in dangerous areas but the cross, final pass and finish weren't there.

Dean added: “They dropped in with two banks of four in front. It was about being patient and trying to break them down and we couldn't.

“It's frustrating when we had all the ball in very good areas and not being able to create anything.”

Brentford have now lost their first two games away from home but have picked up six points from six at Griffin Park.

While Dean knows the Bees' away form must improve, he felt the performance, bar the final ball, was present at the New York Stadium.

He explained: “I think the performance was there today. We just need to be better. We like playing at home.

“We're unbeaten there and we need to start picking up results away from home. It's a tough place to come. We quietened the fans, had a lot of the ball and should have been better.”
