The Brentford squad were left puzzled after the Bees were beaten 2-0 by Barnsley to end their 10-match unbeaten run at Griffin Park.

The west Londoners were second best for 90 minutes as Adam Armstrong and Sam Winnall both struck for the Tykes to grab all three points.

It was a bitterly disappointing week for Brentford who picked up only one point from a possible nine, losing at Championship favourites Newcastle and drawing 0-0 at Derby.

Josh McEachran came off the bench in the second half and he admitted the squad were puzzled by the performance.

He said: “I'm not sure what went wrong. Barnsley did well but we were nowhere near our best. In the Championship, if you're below average you get punished as we did.”

Maxime Colin was another one unsure what went wrong and admitted the whole squad was disappointed after the defeat.

The Frenchman explained: “I don't know what went wrong. We played well against Derby in midweek and we kept a clean sheet.

“We're all really disappointed today as we wanted to maintain our good run at home. We need to adjust and work even harder and be ready for the next game.

“I would say we were all disappointed as we wanted to do well but the quality wasn't there and we didn't score. There's a lot of disappointed people in the dressing room.”

Nico Yennaris

Nico Yennaris was voted as man of the match and he believes the problems were in both boxes.

The midfielder admitted: “We controlled the game and had a lot of the ball. We didn't create enough chances and conceded sloppy goals.”

Romaine Sawyers was jeered off when he was substituted and knows Brentford can do better as a collective.

He said after the game: “It's a tough one to take. We know what we can do and what we're capable of.

“We dominated the ball for most of the game and couldn't turn that domination into chances but we didn't have many clear cut chances.

“We can't dwell on it now. Games come thick and fast and Friday is a perfect one to get back into the swing of things.”

Philipp Hofmann had something to smile about after getting his first minutes on the pitch in over two months but it was a bittersweet feeling.

He explained: “For me it was very positive to get some minutes but disappointing to lose.”
