Jake Bidwell reckons his reputation for being Brentford's quiet man will not hamper him in his new status as captain this season.

The former Everton defender , who clocked up 150 appearances for the Bees earlier this season, was handed the armband following the retirement of Kevin O'Connor and the departures of Tony Craig and Jonathan Douglas .

And while Bidwell admits he will never be the loudest player on the pitch, he does not believe a booming voice is necessary for being a successful skipper.

He said: "It was a real honour when I was made captain this season. I've done it a few times before, including once or twice for Brentford, but to be given it permanently was massive.

"I'm more than happy and comfortable in the role. I've always been a believer that you don't need to be screaming and shouting all the time to get your point across, and actions can speak louder than words.

"Besides which, if you're screaming about this and that all of the time, nobody is going to listen when you've got something really important to say."
