Everyone connected with Brentford FC have rallied around the Bees' player liason manager and stadium announcer Peter Gilham after he confirmed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Football's longest serving announcer has earned the nickname 'Mr Brentford' and his voice is synonymous with the Griffin Park experience.

He celebrated his 70th birthday earlier this year with the players clubbing together to get him a Rolex watch as a present.

In his pre-season training camp blog, Peter wrote: “However as is synonymous with men of my advanced years, PC has reared its ugly head (and I don`t mean political correctness or indeed the local constable) and to help me combat it, I have enlisted a lovely hardworking team of people who know how to go about it. So, daily visits to see them means that I can’t be in two places at once.”

And the diagnosis has seen players and managers, past and present, as well as supporters express their support for a man seen as a Brentford legend.

You can see a selection of tweets below and all of us at GetWestLondon send our best wishes and support to Peter.
