If the Football League wanted a favourable response from west London fans to massive new changes involving fixtures and competitions - they will be sorely disappointed.

The vast majority of Brentford, QPR, Fulham and AFC Wimbledon followers were at best lukewarm to notions of a midweek-free FL, with the biggest bone of contention reserved for the abandonment of FA Cup replays.

In fact, west London fans in favour of non-night matches were those working or who live out of town.

However, the proposal of a 100-club Football League comprising four 20-team divisions behind the Premier League was the least bone of contention.

QPR fan Robert Attridge said: “No FA cup replays? Absolute disgrace.

"Some clubs in the lower divisions really need the money that replays bring especially against the bigger clubs, and Matthew James added: “Rocking up to Loftus Road on a cold Tuesday night under the lights... Not much better ways to watch football imh.”

Brentford supporter John Samuel was equally scathing.

Spot on: McCormack levels in an FA Cup replay at snowbound Wolves

“No mid week games except the FA Cup which will be midweek only with no replays. That will devalue the competition even more.

"FA/FL lose sponsorship which they won't like one bit, which leaves only one option - control the weather. Totally absurd, but no worse than the FL proposal!”

Another Bee, David Billing, simply added: “If it ain't broke don't fix it. And it ain't broke.”

Dave Wright A reduction in teams in each league would be a good thing, but midweek games shouldn't be scrapped. Football league should compensate league 1 and 2 club for the loss of four games per season. Maybe make league 3 regional because of travel distances and attendance level.

Fulham supporter Phil Harper said: “It’s all about money,” and John Mossman getting ready for a Dons League Two play-off semi final echoed the sentiment: “Apart from money. Is there anything else driving this?” he asked.

The Football League will canvas clubs at their Annual General Meeting on June 9-10, with proposals scheduled for season 2019-20.
