Harlee Dean cut a frustrated figure after Brentford's 3-1 defeat to Blackburn.

The Bees skipper was sent off in the closing stages after picking up two yellow cards as the west Londoners crashed to a home defeat to a Rovers side that went down after other results went against them.

Brentford, though, did secure a third successive top 10 finish in the Championship, which means they must now be considered a second tier outfit.

He said: “It wasn't the way I wanted the season to end. You want to go out with a win and continue the form at Griffin Park. Too many people weren't at it today and that's frustrating.

“Finishing in the top 10 is a positive. We've played good football at times. At times we haven't.

“Since the turn of the new year we've been very good. Hopefully we can take into next season and kick on.”

Dean's day would have improved after he was named by the supporters as their player of the season.

Dean Smith made the defender captain at the start of the campaign and the skipper thrived on the added responsibility.

The captain explained: “I feel like I've played well this year and helped other people at the same time. I always felt a leader with the armband or not. Now I have it, people know it and I enjoyed it.”
