A team from Brentford’s Category Two Football Academy will be taking on one of the biggest names in world football this week in a prestigious friendly.

The Bees have organised an U16 friendly against Barcelona. The Brentford side will be largely made up of the players that came fifth in the Junior tournament at the prestigious Milk Cup youth tournament in Northern Ireland this summer.

The Bees will fly out to Barcelona tomorrow (Tuesday) and play the match the following evening (Wednesday).

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC's academy director, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our young players.

“Everyone involved with the Academy is extremely excited about the challenge of taking on one of the best teams in the world.

“The name of Barcelona conjures wonderful images of European Cup winners and huge matches. They have a philosophy that runs throughout their club.

“That DNA is something we want to install at Brentford and our young players will get to see it first-hand. On the pitch, it will be a big test for our boys.

“This team has proved their ability in the Milk Cup and now they can do it on a different stage. Off the pitch the lads can travel together and gain experience of playing matches abroad.

“It is also a chance for staff to see what life is like at Barcelona and gain valuable insight in to how one of the biggest clubs in the world operates.”
