John Egan has been impressed with new Brentford captain Harlee Dean's leadership skills during his short time at the club.

Dean Smith gave the defender, who is the club's second longest serving player, the captain's armband after Jake Bidwell's departure to QPR last summer.

Egan, who plays alongside Dean in the centre of Brentford's defence, believes that the head coach has made a good choice of captain.

“Harlee is a good talker on and off the pitch. He is a presence. I think he is a really good leader and a good captain for us. He's a good choice of captain and hopefully we can build a partnership,” he said.

“I really like playing with Harlee. The more you play with someone the better the partnership gets.

“I feel we were solid on Tuesday and worked well together. We're looking to build on that and take it into Saturday.”

Egan may have only been with the club for six weeks but he feels he has been with the club for much longer than that.

He added: “I feel like I've settled in well with the lads. It's been very good on and off the pitch. We had a good pre-season and a good trip to Germany. I feel like I've been here longer than just over a month.”
