Ryan Woods has won several admirers for his recent performances in a Brentford shirt this season.
The Bees midfielder was superb in the 1-0 defeat at Rotherham, drawing positive reviews from the home fans and media.
His form has continued and he produced performances that could have earned him three man of the match awards in a week, had it not been for Scott Hogan's goals.
However, the midfielder revealed that he didn't fancy the setup at Villa and believes his path to prominence via Shrewsbury has helped him due to being exposed to first-team football.
He said: “I actually did have a trial there (at Aston Villa) as a kid and I didn't enjoy it so that's when I went to Walsall and then Shrewsbury after that.
“I think it's best you start at lower clubs and you work your way up because you get your chances and this is where I am today.
“I'm doing myself justice on the pitch. I'm trying to get better and people will see that through the season.”
Woods has been flattered by the plaudits and he puts his fine form down to the hard work he has put in on the training ground.
“It's really nice to see and hear all these things that are being said about me at the moment but the main thing is to keep working hard, getting better and long may that continue,” he said.
“There's no key to it. I've just been trying my best in training, work hard every day and I'm getting the rewards and long may that continue.”
Woods was also quick to praise midfield partner Nico Yennaris, who has been quietly going about his business this season.
He said: “I think it's been key for us. We give the team a platform to build on and look solid together.
“We're building a very good partnership and long may it continue. It's good for us and good for the team and we're looking to see where we can take Brentford into the Championship.”
