Konstantin Kerschbaumer felt Brentford competed with Huddersfield well and were close to getting at least a point from the Bees' 1-0 loss.

A Rajiv van La Parra cross was turned into the net via deflections off Harlee Dean and Daniel Bentley and that turned out to be the winner.

The Bees had the better of the second half but the Terriers shut the home side down and were worthy of winning all three points.

Kerschbaumer said: “I think we competed very well with them and play good football. They are also a good team but it's really close today to winning or drawing. They're a good team and will probably go up through the play-offs.”

He added: “It was a tough game with a rubbish goal conceded. We played well after the first 10 minutes in the second half and at the end it was difficult because they were all at the back and we couldn't break them down.”

Brentford have a chance to put things right when they host struggling Wolves on Tuesday night and Kerschbaumer wants to see the Bees continue their fine form midweek that saw them win at Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest in recent weeks.

He added: “We always seem to play well in night games and we want to continue in this way in the night games as we were unlucky against Huddersfield.”
