Brentford midfielder Alan McCormack has rubbished rumours linking him with a move to League One side Southend United.

The 32-year-old spent three seasons at Roots Hall, following two loan spells, where he scored 15 goals in 140 league games for the club.

The Irishman is heading into the last year of his contract at Brentford and had been tipped to leave the club earlier this summer with reports suggesting the midfielder had held talks with Shrimpers boss Phil Brown.

But, McCormack has sought to quash these rumours by insisting he has never spoken to the former Hull City boss and re-affirming his commitment to the Bees.

He said: “Listen, I've never had a conversation with Phil Brown in my life. I've never spoken to him.

“I've never received a phone call from anybody pretending to be Phil Brown or anything like that. Where it came from I have no idea. I've not had talks with anyone.

“I don't intend to have talks with anyone unless it's someone from this club so that's it.”
