Alan McCormack has revealed the Brentford squad had a players-only meeting in the wake of their third straight defeat at QPR.

The Bees have been in poor form and had a frank discussion in the aftermath of their 2-1 loss to Charlton.

That didn't work so Jake Bidwell called a meeting on Monday morning for the squad to work out what has been going wrong and how to put it right and McCormack has been pleased with the response on the training pith.

He said: “We had a meeting on Monday morning – just the players on our own and said what needs to be done this week and every game.

“The response of the players' attitude has been phenomenal and hopefully it can lead into Saturday and we can get maximum points.

“It wasn't people shouting at people. Bidders called it. A few people said a few things. We need to go for it.

“We're a good side. We spoke about what we're good at and what we need to do better. We want to win as much as the person beside them.

“The attitude since the meeting has been exceptional. It looks like it has sunk in.”

McCormack was keen to make it plain that it was not as argumentative as the infamous Stevenage row.

He explained further: “It was a response and a feeling that after the run of games we've had where we've shown our ability before getting beaten on the counter.

“You could see it after the game where nobody is talking and after the west London derby where we lost 3-0.

“We know we want to be as close to the play-offs as we can. We looked at all the games and we felt we needed to have a chat and make it clear again that this is our ambition and we've all got to up our game.

“There was no criticism told to anybody. It wasn't a panic meeting. It was what Bidders thought would be beneficial for the group.

Called the meeting: Jake Bidwell

“It was nothing like the Stevenage game. It was more argumental than anything else.

“This was a pure positive meeting about proving we're all good players. It wasn't a big deal. It was something Bidders felt was needed after sleeping on it over the weekend.”

McCormack is one of the most experienced players in the dressing room and has, alongside Harlee Dean and Jake Bidwell, been helping the younger players through the problems.

He said: “I try and help the younger boys. Harlee Dean and Jake Bidwell speak to them as well. It's the responsibility more than your age.

“The boys like Sergi and Swifty have got so much talent and ability we want them to show it week in week out.

“They're going to make mistakes as we all do. I don't see a responsibility about doing it. I do it because it's the right thing to do.”
