Brentford full back Rico Henry is set to undergo an operation after his knee injury sustained at Middlesbrough.

The former Walsall man suffered the blow, which is set to rule him out for the rest of the season, in the first half in the 2-2 draw at the Riverside Stadium.

And head coach Dean Smith confirmed that the left back is in good spirits ahead of the operation.

He said: “Rico is good. He's having an operation on the knee this week and then he's got to recover before he begins the process to get back.”

Josh Clarke has stepped in and performed well in Henry's absence and Smith has been pleased with his performance levels.

The Brentford boss added: “He's done very well. I had all the question marks on what to do after the Middlesbrough game where I thought he came on and did well.

“We had the options of Ilias or Yoann or Andreas who'd played there the season before. He acquitted himself and deserved to start.

“He had a difficult game Saturday against Watmore, who was excellent, and I don't think he did too badly.”
