Alan Judge wouldn't mind a repeat of the first time he faced Reading when his Brentford side tackle the Royals at Griffin Park tomorrow.

The Bees midfielder was a raw teenager at Blackburn sent out on loan to Plymouth when Reading visited Home Park three days after Christmas in 2009.

Judge bagged a brace as the Pilgrims won 4-1, the start of a journey which saw him arrive at Brentford via Notts County and a second spell at Blackburn.

He said: “I played against them (Reading) with Plymouth and was lucky enough to score two against them in one game. I was only starting to play and was sent out on loan from Blackburn at 19 or 20 years of age. It seems like a long time ago.

Unlucky defeat: Judge is dejected following the defeat at Watford

“A lot of teams coming are big teams, as you saw with Leeds, and we’re hoping for a proper sell-out this weekend. These are games you want to play in. Watford are ex-Premiership, Leeds are ex-Premiership, Reading are ex-Premiership. What else can you ask for?”

Judge would do well to repeat that two-goal showing against Reading this time as he has been converted into more of a defensive midfielder this season.

It is a role he is flourishing in, not least a man of the match performance in Tuesday night's defeat at Watford, but he is still determined not to leave his attacking instincts behind.

He said: “I haven’t scored yet but I've had four assists, and that’s the one thing I’ve missed from my performances. Most years I’ve got into double figures with my assists, and I’m not going to change my target of 10. One game you could get two and then I might go on a run.

“My stats on tackling have gone up from last year. I’m making four or five in a game where I made none last year. You look at your tackling stats and passing stats as that’s what you need to be a decent midfielder. It’s another thing to learn as you go along.”

While Saturday's game is likely to be a tight one, Judge sent out a warning that once they start taking their chances, Brentford are going to give someone a real hammering soon.

He added: “Middlesbrough was the only game you can say we were outdone, while Watford proved that if you don’t finish your chances, one bit of quality can do for you.

“I’d like to think that we’ll play a team and get four or five goals as we do create a lot of chances, it just comes down to finishing them.”
