Lasse Vibe is itching to hurl himself into international duty with Denmark as the 1992 European champions look to book their place at Euro 2016.

The Brentford summer signing has been called up to the squad to face Albania at home on Friday before heading to Armenia for a game on Monday.

And Vibe still feels like a child on Christmas morning, given the long, winding road it took to get there.

He said: “I love it. It gives me goosebumps every time. I've been fighting to get there. I've always had people thinking I'm not good enough and I'd only played one game in the second tier in Denmark and I'd played 150 games in the third tier. That's been catching me ever since.

Sweden: Lasse Vibe celebrates scoring for IFK Gothenberg.

“I've been two or three years too old. I got my chance playing in the Swedish league (and IFK Gothenberg) which the Danes see as a weaker league and starting five games in a row, including against Portugal. I couldn't have imagined that when I was in the third tier.”

Albania are rivalling Denmark for a spot in France next year with the Danes ahead on goal difference having played a game more, making this meeting of vital importance to both sides.

Vibe added: “We're second but Albania who we're playing at home have the same points as us.

“They're a really good team and if we beat them they'll go behind us. If we draw they can get ahead and we might face the play-offs. We need six points in those two games.”
