Mark Devlin has confirmed Brentford will look to reimburse both fans of the club and Birmingham City over the postponement of next week's fixture and admitted it was embarrassing for the club.

The appalling nature of the Griffin Park pitch has meant the club are having to relay it after just two games, forcing the rearrangement of next Tuesday's contest to September 29.

The club had spent 'hundreds of thousands' of pounds to put new drainage in and, after just two games, the club are relaying the surface.

Resurface needed: The Griffin Park pitch

Devlin said: “It's a full refund (on tickets) for people who can't make the rearranged game. We also understand people have travel tickets that they're unable to exchange.

“We've been contacted by Birmingham supporters groups and will look to see what we can do with them to reimburse with them for their travel. They can get a full refund on tickets and the travel situation will apply to our own fans.

He added: “I would be lying if I said it wasn't embarrassing for the club.”

Awful: The Griffin Park pitch

Brentford have been assured that the pitch will be in place in time for the meeting with Reading on August 29.

He explained: “The contractors involved in relaying the surface have guaranteed it will be ready for the Reading game and beyond. There is no question mark in my mind, no.

“It is hugely disappointing. An independent investigation and report has been commissioned by the club.

“I was told it was fairly standard to do the draining first then the pitch. We're hoping to have the results of the investigation as quickly as possible and want it to be as detailed and frank as it can be.”
