David Button insists he’s got nothing to prove when he comes up against Chris Powell tomorrow.

The Brentford keeper was signed by Powell for Charlton in 2012, but made just five appearances for the Addicks before being deemed surplus to requirements at the Valley.

Button faces his old manager when the Bees travel to Huddersfield Town tomorrow. However, the 25-year-old insists he’s got no score to settle.

He said: “It was a little bit of a frustrating time for me at Charlton. I would like to think I would have been given a chance a bit sooner there. It was a difficult year but it helped build my character.

Former boss: Button worked with Chris Powell at Charlton

“I don’t think Chris Powell was particularly keen for me to leave. I forced it through to come here, so I don’t feel like I have anything to prove.

“I go into every game wanting to win and on Saturday it will be no different. We know it’s going to be a difficult game. Huddersfield are a physical team so it will be another test for us.”

Mark Warburton’s men could go top of the table with victory at the John Smith’s Stadium after five wins on the spin has catapulted them up to third in the table, a point behind leaders Derby.

Brentford’s promotion hopes have been written off by some critics, but Button says they are ready to prove their doubters wrong.

He added: “The gaffer has said the longer we stay under the radar the better. The way we are playing at moment we probably do deserve a little bit more credit than we are getting.

“It’s extra motivation. The gaffer sometimes mentions it in his team talks. Hopefully we can go out and prove people wrong at the end of the season.

“We’re full of confidence and going into each game half-expecting to win. We’re not going to get carried away and take each game as it comes.”
