Brentford keeper David Button insists he’s got nothing to prove as he prepares to face his former club Charlton on Saturday.

The Bees kick off their Championship campaign against the Addicks at Griffin Park as Mark Warburton’s men look to hit the ground running.

Button was restricted to just five league starts during his season stint at the Valley before Brentford offered him an escape route last summer.

The 25-year-old’s decision to quit south-east London proved justified as he featured 42 times as the Bees won promotion from League One and rewarded with a new contract.

Looking back: Button in action during his Charlton days

He said: “Any footballer will tell you it’s all about playing games, which I’ve managed to do at Brentford.

“I don’t feel I’ve got anything to prove against Charlton. When I did play I think I did ok, but it will be nice to get a full season and show what I can do.

“I’ve had loans at Doncaster and Barnsley as well when they were in the Championship, so I’ve played a fair few games at this level.

“I know it’s tough league but I’m looking forward to testing myself again and hopefully showing I’m a good goalkeeper.”
