Brentford are hoping to have their squad for the 2015/16 season in place by the time they travel to Portugal for a training camp on July 6.

The Bees appointed Marinus Dijkhuizen as head coach and he will be able to have his say on incoming players.

The club signed Akaki Gogia in May and they have a host of targets lined up that they are looking to bring in sooner rather than later.

Chief executive Mark Devlin told GetWestLondon : “There are a good number of players we're looking at and are interested in and we're in various stages of speaking to them or their representatives about them. It's not just about quantity but about adding quality to the squad.

“Nothing is imminent at the moment. We'd like them to be more straightforward than they are. We hope to have our targets in for the start of pre-season and certainly before the training camp in Portugal.”

Brentford will take an innovative approach when it comes to preparation, which will include more focus on set-pieces.

Devlin added: “We know we're not going to outspend clubs in the Championship, let alone the Premier League so we have to try and come up with smarter ways of doing things at the top level.

“We'll look at set-pieces. They're more and more important in the game so why shouldn't we spend more time than perhaps we've done in the past. It's no slight on the players. If it gives you an edge then why not?

“We're looking at every aspect of player preparation; how they eat, recover, how they train and how often. We're prepared to be open-minded about it.”

Promotion is the aim for the club but Devlin is aware there are risks in their change in management structure will bring with Rasmus Ankersen and Phil Giles taking over as co-directors of football.

He said: “We have to set the bar high but we have to understand that the course of action carries an element of risk but as long as we're doing the right things for the long-term future of the club that's the most important thing.

“It's about how we play, recruit and use the innovation we have at our fingertips. The ultimate aim is to get promoted.”
