Brentford hopeful over defender ahead of Middlesbrough trip as Dean Smith gives injury update

Latest on Bjelland, Canos, Vibe, Macleod and Judge

Brentford are hopeful that Andreas Bjelland will be fit for Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough after he was forced off against Derby.

The Dane was replaced at half-time with a tight hamstring and the club have been assessing him in the past few days. John Egan is also available after missing the Derby game with concussion.

And there is a chance that Bjelland, who has been called up for international duty with Denmark, could be involved at the Riverside.

Head coach Dean Smith said: “We're hopeful he'll be all right. He's experienced and knew he had to get off the pitch. He could be involved on Saturday.”

Sergi Canos and Lasse Vibe are on the comeback trail as well as they are both running in a bid to return to training.

Smith added: “If Sergi is up and running so the signs are good so it hopefully won't be too long. Lasse is running. He had a heel injury so hopefully he'll be back soon.”

Lewis Macleod is also in full training and is set to play his first game in the next week to 10 days as he recovers from his anterior cruciate ligmanet injury.

Smith confirmed: “It might be an in house training game but he'll get minutes before the B team game.

“He won't be playing against Rangers. We're starting to get him involved in team meetings etc. so he knows what's expected.”

Alan Judge is just awaiting the green light and Smith sees the return of the Irishman and Scotsman as the equivalent as two big signings.

He added: “Judgey is waiting for the consultant's appointment before getting the green light. The likes of him and Judgey coming back to full fitness will be like two big money moves for players.”
