Brentford wing wizard Jota has revealed he is was a fan of Manchester United legend David Beckham when he was growing up in Spain.

The former England captain, who turned out for the Red Devils, Preston on loan Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, was a hero to many in this country.

But he also had an impact on the 25-year-old, who watched the winger dazzle players with his skill and passing range.

Jota said: “I don't have many heroes but when I was young I liked David Beckham a lot when he was at Manchester United.

“Beckham was my idol when I was young. When I was young because I saw every game.”

Of course, when Beckham moved to Real Madrid he took the number 23 shirt but that is not why the Spaniard wears that at Brentford.

He revealed: “It's not because of Beckham. I like LeBron James in the NBA and this is why I have the number 23. In football, my idol is Beckham.”
