Brentford have been given dispensation to keep the terracing at Griffin Park by the Sports Ground Safety Authority for next season.

Clubs promoted to the Championship are allowed three years to convert their standing areas to seated ones.

The club, who are building a new ground at Lionel Road, had asked to keep their terrace, bearing in mind the progress on the project and the safety record on the terrace.

And the Bees have been given permission to retain the terracing for next season, subject to formal approval from the Secretary of State to maintain terracing at its current level for next season.

However, with the club not expecting to move into their new home until 2019, further dispensation will be required.

Brentford chief executive Mark Devlin said: “We would like to place on record our thanks to the SGSA board for allowing us a chance to present our case and for giving us a fair hearing.

“The introduction of seats into terraced areas of Griffin Park would have reduced our capacity by approximately 1,600.

“This is hugely positive news as this would have had a significantly damaging impact on our revenues and ability to grow our fanbase.”

Brentford will also be announcing their season ticket prices for the 2017/18 season on Wednesday morning.
